display screen showing wierd letters

Just recently my mutoh (prismjet) stopped displaying english on the display screen and it's just random letters and I cannot get the material to reverse back up. It will advance forward by holding shift and advance etc... Is there something wrong with a fuse or mother board?

I've had my 1614 freakout a few times.. beeping & random chars. I assumed it's a firmware bug. Powered off and fine. I think one I had to remove power totally. I seem to remember a foward only problem as well. Hope you figure it out soon and cheaply!

Not sure about VJ (or PrismJet) but good old Falcon shows weird letters and characters when lcd cable is not properly inserted. Mine missed one side contact and it caused to display nothing but UFO messages.
