Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with magenta only on my eco-solvent printer and I'd
appreciate some guidance.
Setup:
- Printer: ORIC with 1 Epson DX5 printhead
- Ink: Galaxy eco-solvent
- RIP: Printer Manager, printing at 8 passes
- The machine was printing fine until recently; nothing was changed
intentionally (same ink brand, same media, same profile).
Symptoms:
- Nozzle check comes out complete — all channels firing (photo attached).
- Solid magenta fills come out streaky/grainy, with fine parallel banding
and some loss of density (photos attached).
- Yellow, cyan and blends without heavy magenta print perfectly smooth.
- It's only magenta, and only in solid/heavy coverage areas.
What I've checked so far:
- Nozzle check: complete, no missing segments.
- [Head cleanings done: yes]
- Ambient temp in the shop is currently around [19/20 °C] (it's winter here).
My current suspects, since the nozzle check is fine:
1.lignment between the two magenta channels (bidi or vertical calibration done)
2. Magenta damper partially clogged / air ingress → ink starvation on fills
3. Slightly deflected nozzles on the magenta rows (dirty nozzle plate/wiper)
4. Ink viscosity due to cold weather or a new ink batch
Has anyone seen this pattern — perfect nozzle check but one color banding
only in solid fills? Which of these would you rule out first, and is there
a specific test print you'd recommend to isolate between channel alignment
and ink starvation?
