Being new to Gerber and getting busier, I have a dumb question, when using high performance cast vinyl or same reflective for Edge FX graphics, is there a size or a rule for when you apply transfer tape as opposed to not when making large orders of same graphic. Curious what the more experienced have found that works best.

It's more a matter of customer preference. I tend to mask PNC work that has details like inside corners sooner than I would mask a rectangle or a circle. Also I'm more inclined to mask when it's a metallic film that tears easily. We have one customer that orders machine labels as large as 3" x 11.75" with internal cutouts for knobs and lights on HP Clear that prefers them unmasked.
