Encad Novajet 50 connecting with USB

I have an older novajet 50 I was going to fire back up. I no longer have a parallel port on my computer so I bought a parallel to usb adapter. My computer recognized the adapter and I have installed the driver, but it does not seem to communicate with the printer. No errors come up but it gets stuck at 128KB/330KB on a test print and the printer does nothing.

I tried the same thing on my vinyl cutter and had the same problem,I went to the computer shop,bought a new parallel port card (15 bucks),works great.
