Thinking of getting the 8170. Can the media be attached to the take up reel after the printing has started?

Yes, you can attach the media to the take-up reel after printing has started, as long as the printer supports “load during printing” and you follow the proper steps.

I would say faster. My S9170 is a lot faster than my S80 was.
