Need Help EPSON S9170 ODORSf!!!

Hey guys,

Replaced my S80600 in December with the s9170. The S80600 had always had an odor, but it was pretty bareable. Ever since installing the S9170, the odor coming from this thing is so bad, you can almost taste it. I've thrown everything I can think of at trying to exhaust air from the room, different filtering systems, etc. and nothing seems to help. I reeached out to epson, and the dealer, and it seems everything is as it should be.

It's 12' from my desk and I don't really have an option to close it off in my current space. Anyone else noticing this? Any ideas on how to fix it? Printing all self adhesive vinyl. Primarily Avery 1105. I don't know if I'm dizzy from the fumes, or chasing my tail in circles trying to find a solution.

We have both of those printers. Just (finally) got the 9170 up and running as of Friday afternoon. I sit about 4ft from the 9170, and the 80600 is on the other side of the new kid. I don't really smell the fumes. Maybe I'm used to them... but I smell stinky vinyl waaaaay more often than I ever smell the inks.

Yes,

Definitely need an air scrubber.

Years ago there was a thread here, someone cut a circular hole in the hood of their printer and vented it with a dryer exhaust coil and exhaust fane out of the building.

Worked great if I remember correctly

Get a good filter!!!
I developed bladder cancer from being in a small space printing truck wraps. I'm glad that the urologist were able to get it all. But I have to be scoped every year to see if it has came back .

Unfortunately we’ve tried air scrubbers. 1000$ air filter. Rabbit air. Both directly in front of it. I have a 6” duct running on full blast pulling a foot to the left of the printer. None of it has done anything for us.

And it’s our office, so everything running can be super overwhelming when a customer comes in.

Not sure how you guys tend to take orders and interact with customers, we still have an open lobby with folks coming in, but have you considered locking the door and doing appointment only, finding a better spot to meet, and rededicating any customer areas to usable space for either the printer or yourself? I've heard lots of good things from folks no longer taking walk in customers...

VOC is he problem with ink that is what causes cancer. It is heverier than air so it stays close to the floor. charcoal filters are the way to go to remove V OC.

I bought an air quality monitor to measure things.

A filter with 18-20lbs of carbon had almost no measurable effect on the VOCs in my small print area while the printer was actually printing. Only running a powerful exhaust with a good fresh air supply seems to set things back into the tolerable range while it's in use...
