FC8000 perf cut

Hi All,
We just acquired a new FC8000-160 plotter, and are attempting to do some perf cut, as we have never had that option before. I can get the contour cut to work quite nicely, but I just cannot get the perf cut to work properly.

I've watched all the videos that came with the software. I don't know what material they are using, but their blade lengths and force settings are really low compared to what I am getting. Plus allt he documentation seems to be lacking a bit.

The material we are using, for this example anyways, is 3M IJ35C-10 film with 8509 laminate. That, according to the specs, comes out to 6mil. For contour cut, I have the blade length set to 8mil, and the force set to 29. This seems to work great (using tool position 1).

Ideally, according to the video, to perf cut, I just have to switch to tool position 3, and increase the force. Initially I kept increasing the force until I maxed it out at 49.

Since then, I have kept the force at 38, and have been increasing the blade length. Currently the blade length is at 24mil, and it is cutting, but it's tearing up the material as well (this is all using the FC's test cuts), corners are messed up, lines aren't straight, etc, etc.

So I'm not sure what to do at this point, any help or references would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

IM in the same boat. Ill be doing some test too and reply to try and help.

24mil? i think you have too much blade out and the media is hitting he blade shaft and not the blade razor edge. if your using the 09 blade it is only for thin media. you may need to get the 15 blade with the red holder. the blade should be in the front position so it runs in the gutter and not on the strip.
blade depth should just barely cut through media. remove the holder and hold it to the edge of the media where you can see the blade and thickness of media. then load the holder and use force 40 and test it. if not enough increase force a couple clicks.

on another note... why didn't your vendor send a tech to set it up and set up some profiles for kiss cut, perf cut, reflective cut as a starting point. call them.
