FC8600 - Firmware Update - Anyone Do It? - To run Cutmaster 5

Running a Graphtec FC8600-130, using Cutmaster 4 with the plug in for Adobe Illustrator. Problem we are having is currently the 8600 is not compatible with the newer cut master software, and Cutmaster 4 will not run on the newer adobe. University IT does not like us running adobe 2023 and are trying to force us to remove it. Graphtec says we can update the firmware on the plotter, and it should then run on the new software. However, they say "So you are aware, the cutter is legacy, as you noted, and we cannot promise functionality on the newer software".

Has anyone had any experience with doing a firmware update? Did it work?

Don't know about firmware updates, but... we're running Cutmaster 5 from Illustrator with our FC8600-75. I think we went to 5 because of getting newer Illustrator. I've just been refusing updates to Cutmaster since then. Don't know if you can just update to 5 now, but it could give you more time, anyway.
