First lighted sign in ....25 yrs, question

So, I am doing a back lighted sign over for a friend. The top portion is black with white letters. The old sign had a flat black vinyl on it.
I don't have any flat black. Is there any reason not to use gloss black?
He is a good friend so if flat would work for better for some reason I'll get it.

Regular black vinyl will or can fail because of the extreme heat the sign boxes collect and generate. I recommend you use black made for electric sign faces.
