Flexi Sign Gradients

How would I make this pattern gradient where it would go from black to grey to black to grey to black. I dont need it to be this color, im just looking for this pattern type. Im new to the gradients. Happy Thanksgiving all!

I know you go to:
fill/stroke editor
gradient fill
advanced
then what do i do from there?
