From Powerpoint to Versa Works

I was emailed a powerpoint file last week for me to print on my 540 and it really came out grainy. He wants me to make some 4 x 6 placards for displays. I played with the settings by laying down more ink and it helped some but that also darkens the image.
I was exporting it from PP as a pdf into Illustrator then saving as a eps into versa works.

Whats your suggestions?

They may not be much I can do since the jet and engine were d/led off the net.

It is starting out as a low res and will stay low res when produced.

Yea, this what I was thinking. 72 dpi is not gonna cut it even though PP says its 300.
