I could have seen one of my professors doing this if this had existed out in the wild like it does now in the last century when I went. But they would have used it to fail the kids. I had one professor (micro biology, which was already a weed out class) that was in competition with another one for that very thing.

Ultimately, this is the biggest concern that I have with this level of automation. That 2nd/3rd generation of user won't know what it is abstracting (some even "early adopters" don't) and we get this point that people aren't even bothering to proof read (which is an indictment of the education system now in general that has quite honestly promoted this type of laziness with the heavy handiness of tech and early usage of it (some areas early compared to others, at least here stateside)).

The f*cked up thing here is, none of the students got expelled. This is cheating, and should run up directly against that academic honesty or whatever pledge they make you sign at most universities. It's madness what they let kids get away with.

A professor gets fired because their class was too hard. Organic chemistry is also a weed out course, so pretty much anywhere one goes, if their institution is worth anything, it's going to be tough. Unfortunately, kids nowadays aren't. Also bare in mind, given the fields that people enter into that have organic chem class, "you" wouldn't want them to be your doctor and making your medicine if it was too hard and they had to get the prof fired so they could continue on.

In the UK we've got it worse.. We have courses dumbed down so more students get frantasic grades (yet can hardly speak english), and now we have Cambridge "professors" who can run 600 miles in 6 days with a fractured leg (apparently), was threatened by a masked man with a knife on campus, yet didn't bother to inform the police or campus security - just went back to work - who cares that there's someone with a knife running around the campus. yet calls the police when questioned about why his thesis is so VERY similar to a previously published one.. Cambridge want DEI - who cares if he lies - he ticks the DEI boxes..

Unfortunately, most universities care more about pumping as many kids through as possible these days. They're willing to look the other way for the tuition money.

It's big bucks given what students are now able to get in terms of loans. It just creates a positive feedback loop. Unfortunately, they can't have attendance numbers go down after they get in in order to keep those bucks flowing (it isn't just tuition, all the other nickel and dime charges), so once they are in, it has to be relatively trivial to keep them in.

And I mean come on. Some of the degrees that are there, they shouldn't be. Those degrees certainly don't help pay off the loans that they have, if they were to find a job for that degree. And given that most take out as much as they can, that's just another problem. The joys of taking out "home ec" from school (especially the part of balancing a budget).
