Head temperature 0 degrees Celsius and can’t print/head error

I had a tech come out and service my Mimaki 6042 mkii to just get it up and running since it was in storage from previous owners. The tech told me to fill the machine up only with distilled water and did so during that visit. He said antifreeze is only used twice a year since the water evaporates out and left with a high concentration of antifreeze.

Since his visit I had a lot of errors with my heads. Now a 12e error on all heads but was still printing all the colors I needed except magenta. I never really printed with white a lot but this morning printed a bunch in white. Then I went to do other work so the machine turned off and was doing auto maintenance during this time.

I went back to print again and when I turned on the machine along with the 12e error I now was getting “can’t print/head error”.

I had a new pcb board and tried replacing that. Didn’t work. I took out ribbons, swapped them etc. nothing worked and the error 12e still occurred with the can’t print/ head error.

I checked the temperature of the heads and all of them seemed within range 1-4a were around 34-38 degrees Celsius however 4b was 0 degrees Celsius.

What could cause these errors? What would cause the 0 degrees on head 4b? Would that correspond to the can’t print error?

Error 12e means the slider board isn't getting any signal from the head. That would also be the reason why it's reading 0 degrees since it's simply not getting any data about the head temp either. Check the cable that goes from the head to the slider board and make sure it's plugged in all the way and not damaged or burnt. Unfortunately, if the cable is good, it's either going to be a damaged head or slider board. It could be other electrical issues like a damaged main board as well but that's more rare.

If I were to guess, looks like a crushed cable, or shielding scraped through the insulation and caused a short circuit.
