New Guy Hello and help!! Roland imaging issue.

Hi all, could anyone offer advice on what is causing this? I'm running a Roland VG-540 with TrueVis TR2 inks. This happens at random times and then carries on fine afterwards. Could it be faulty media? Looks like some kind of contamination but it runs right across the media. Would be grateful for any help and advice.

It looks like the roll of vinyl has been laying on its side, leaving a subtle indentation. When the ink is sprayed as it prints, the droplets take a certain amount of time to hit the media; indentations are slightly lower, so the ink travels further and misses small areas. But bottom line is it is a media issue - either storage or quality.

Well this was unexpected. Different brand of gloss white SAV and a very similar issue. Again running right across the media. Could this be a problem with the machine or am I doing something wrong? :(

This is a long shot, but is anything being sprayed in the air? Air fresheners or cleaning products, fans blowing, anything?
Likely the culprit. Turn off all ventilation, spool off a few feet and see if it still persists. Increase humidity, etc.

We have a sheet of foamcore that sits over our media at the back of the printer to avoid dust contamination.

We have had fans on when it is hot but what is really puzzling is the way it goes in a band across the media. I could understand dust hickies etc. but this seems uniform. Maybe dust gathers on the top of the roll as it is sitting in the back of the machine? We have had to bite the bullet and call an engineer out. Will update on progress.

That's interesting as I wondered about how exposed the rolled media was on the back of the machine - will try this.
