Hi Guys, got a request for more detail on how to measure what's left on a roll of vinyl. We have tools to help you with this at https://www.firesprint.com/tools

Also made a video describing the basic methodology using a roll of TP for a visual. Hey, it's the same math either way!

Good luck!

Well, it might work for vinyl, but I sure don't wanna depend on it for wiping, unless I had a bidet.

I use a different formula. When I open my last roll, I write it on my order list to consider ordering another roll for stock. Seems to work for us so far.

I agree, we have full roll kanban system which we order material. Generally we're ordering 24 rolls when we get down to 12 or so.

We do the same thing with TP. :D

Still alot of reasons to want to know how much is left on a roll tho.

Anybody try this? Can I help at all?

I was wondering how accurate you find that system? It seems to me to have to many variables on measuring. If the rolls are more tightly packed that would change your numbers or if when you measure the diameters if you squeeze it to hard it would mess up your results.

Have you ever tried weighing the vinyl? I would think it would be more accurate. Weight a yard of material. Weight an empty tube. Then weigh a roll of material on a tube, subtract your tube number and calculate how many yards there is. I believe it would be more accurate. Just my 2 cents!
