How to name Flex cut (perf cut) in illustrator for output to onyx & Summa S2 T160 Plotter

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I don't use Illustrator or Onyx very much at all and I need to name my perf cut contour lines in illustrator so onyx will see them for output to a Summa S2 T160 plotter.

Onyx looks for a named spot color to recognize cut paths, not just a stroke with a specific color. In Illustrator, create your contour line as a vector path with no fill and a thin stroke . Then create or edit a Spot Color swatch and name it exactly what your Onyx workflow expects (commonly CutContour, though some workflows use PerfCutContour or another custom name)
If you’re unsure of the required name, check your Onyx Cut-Server or Summa cutter settings, as the spot color name must match exactly, including capitalization.Which version of Onyx are you using, and are you trying to do a standard contour cut or a perforation (perf) cut? That will determine the correct spot color name.Tan

Thanks, for the reply. I'm using Onyx Thrive 22, it came with our Epson printer and I've only used it a few times. Under "Configure Cutter" in the cut server it has one listed as FLEX_CUT. I'm assuming that's what I need to do.

Your spot colour should be called CutContourFlexCut

In onyx you set the rules. CutContour works for normal cut and either CutContourPerf or PerfCutContour for perforated cut. these are the commonly used ones, but could use any names and set rules for it in onyx.
Summa will FlexCut if you link Tool5 or Tool6 for it.

It depends on what is setup in your job editor. If you go to printer and media tab, on the bottom left it should say contour cutter selection.. you'll select your plotter there, and make sure spot color replacement table is selected. That way it will see the spot color that you are using in your art as something... When you select your plotter path prefix, you want to go to configue printer, edit your default (or set up a quickset) and choose your name convention there. We use CutContour as mentioned above. Color for that doesn't matter, just that the name and the spelling is exactly right. Onyx will see your cut path from there. But be sure to select your plotter or you wont have registration.

I found the video here from onyx really helpful for setting up a cut workflow, but this one's almost a half hour long

You'll need to make sure the layer and swatch is named to your cutter prefix. You can setup a custom one if you want to use "FLEX_CUT"
