HP 310 Spindle endcap broken: how to replace?

Hi all fellow HP-adepts,
I have a slight issue going on. I have an endcap which has broken off off the spindle (see pics)

I ordered the replacement parts according to Digiprint. But i cannot seem to figure out how to unmount the broken one? Has anyone any experience with this?

you can order a new spindle through gsg. probably grimco too.

Thanks, i know, but i love to replace a defective part instead of replacing more than needed if it's possible. Thanks for any more tips.
