HP 335 Edge Detection ERROR

AKA TRE

New Member
Good Morning Signs 101 Crew,

I have an HP 335 Latex and honestly it's been a great machine. About 3 weeks ago everything was humming along like normal and I needed to change out some media. Went through the normal steps and it was doing it's thing when I hear a KaChunk...BEEP BEEP BEEP error 42:03. The carriage had gone all the way left and errored out. So I do some trouble shooting and find that likely its the line sensor... this makes total sense. Changed it out, and it worked great. Fast forward to a couple jobs later and I had some banner material bunch up and caused a head strike... Okay this had happened before. Clear the strike, reboot... Bam same issue, everything loads fine until it goes to check width and doesn't know when to stop. Changed out the sensor again and it didn't work the first time but after a reboot it did load... Worked great for a week and then you guessed it, I had to change media... BAM 42:03 again carriage goes to far left without stopping. So now I deduce that it's the PCA carriage board. I get a new one of those in and swap it out. Same issue. Tried yet another line sensor with the new board and still cannot get it to detect that edge when it goes to the "checking width" portion of a media load. Any ideas as to what I should try next?

Two things. First you must calibrate the line sensor or it's not reliable.
There's really never any issues with it unless it gets wet.

2ndly I think your real issue is the encoder/sensor that needs proper cleaning.

Last possibility is the carriage motor malfunctioning.

Thank you for this!
When you say encoder/sensor are you talking about the encoder strip?
Carriage motor is a possibility I suppose but seems to function normally with the exception of loading new media.

Yes encoder strip and sensor. Don't need no replacing just proper cleaning.

I guess you could have issues with the trailing cable as well but lets not go so far yet. First calibrate that line sensor if you haven't.

Okay I cleaned the encoder strip really well, I am not finding any setting to allow me to calibrate the line sensor. Do you know where I can find that?
