HP R-Series Sandwich Mode Issue

Hi,

I am having an issue trying to print in sandwich mode. It seems that any part of the image that is a true white or has no real value in color is not printing white in the middle layer (leaving it clear). For the font I was able to change the color to a different white color and it seemed to work. For the image on the graphic, I am getting a small section that is not printing white just leaving it transparent. Anyone know how to get a solid white middle, so it won't show through?

How the void looks on the R1000 white layer. I need this black to be completely solid.

How it is printing out on the printer. (no white ink in this space)

What RIP are you using, and how are you generating your white data? If I had to guess I'd bet the voids are because your area contains no CMYK ink and your RIP is set to lay down white anywhere there's "image area." Unfortunately pretty much any RIP construes "image area" to mean "anywhere that's not printing 0-0-0-0."

I have a series of videos for working with white ink - and have three videos specific to Caldera, and Flexi - and they're all available at https://www.youtube.com/c/LeeManevitch

If you need more guidance let me know and I'll help you out, but the RIP-specific videos should show you what went wrong and how to fix it.

Hi Manevitch,

Thanks for the reply. I am using Onyx rip.

I figured that there wasn't a value in the image. Is there a way to add value to an image? I tried to add a white rectangle behind the image to see if that would help but it didn't. Any suggestions?

How are you adding the white? In Onyx?
Are you doing a full flood fill? It should cover that whole space no matter what there is.

I am not adding any white. I am sending it to the white_image_fill_over-reflect folder. When it's in the Thrive Rip-Queue I select the print mode 300dpi, heat sensitive 3 layers 29p 80 70

Then that's your issue, im not completely sure what that preset does but it's not what you want. Probably just fills over color but you want full Flood fill.

Just add the white in Onyx spot colours as Flood fill and you will be done in 30sec and printing...

Later you should double check your quicksets so you won't have these mistakes.

I think i found the answer in one of your "Onyx RIP White Ink Workflow" video. In onyx job editor I changed the spot channel white to FLOOD FILL from Fill image area. THANK YOU!!!!

I've been out-of-pocket since writing my initial response. Glad you find your answer. For Flexi you can do the same thing - if you look at my Flexi white ink workflow video I show you all the various options in there as well.

For Onyx the Quick Set is fine as a starting point but, as you discovered, you can go in and make changes after applying it. If you want to make that change "stick" across all your jobs you can edit the actual Quick Set so it applies the way you want for every subsequent job.
