Illustrator problem with eps file

I have been designing in Omega and saving as an eps. When I open the file in Illustrator the objects are not grouped together. This is what I am getting now, Fine if it is on a background color but not if it is over a pattern. What am I missing? Thanks Jim

In Omega give the lettering a fill and combine them before exporting.
