Ink Buildup on Roland

Sometimes near the end of a print the print head smears ink. I wipe it off the print with the cleaning solution when it does smear. The last time I cleaned it I felt under a steel plate near where the head goes to and from and there was a lot of build up of ink. Must be where it is coming from? How do I clean under that? Or do I? The manual doesn't mention cleaning it. This photo the ink smear is from the paper not lying flat but similar to what I get. Any ideas?

Those are head strikes, caused by media buckling.

You have to keep an eye out for buckling caused by heat and or uneven tension from the roll/take up reel.

When I see buckling start to happen I'll start manually advancing the take up (after releasing the tension) and pre-feeding the roll.

Temp print is at 42 d and the dryer is at 50 d on 3651 or 3751 orajet. What do u do when the ink spreads? Wipe it off with?

the pic below is the silver plate that seems to have buildup. Do I clean under it somehow. Thanks

I would turn the print heat down to around 35 and see if that helps. What to wipe the ink off with? It shouldn't be there in the first place. Head strikes should be avoided at all costs as they cause damage to the head. Wiping the ink off is a nice way to save a job but don't rely on it as a fix. The more head strikes you experience the more likely the head will fail early.

Do you do regular manual cleanings?

Replace wipers when needed?

Ever replace the scraper blade?

I do but probably not as often as I should. I have never replaced the scraper blade? I wondered if that could be the problem.

The paper buckeled again and ink smeared after about 4.5' went thru.

If the paper is doing that, you need to worry about head strikes. Is the vacuum on high when you're printing?

What does your test print look like?
