JV33 and Finecut

Hi everyone, I am looking for a bit of help as I have recently started working at my parents business and we are having issues with having our old system break down and having to set up on new Pc's. We do predominantly vehicle graphics with commercial signage and print work using a couple of mimaki machines for print and cut graphics, mostly off of signlab printing off of a mimaki jv33-160 then cutting via CG 130 FX II, with using signlabs own VPM as well as rasterlink for print jobs. We do the occasional print and cut off of our cjv30-130, however this tends to be more a backup as this was a 2nd hand purchase and can be a bit unreliable.

We have now switched over to illustrator as recently purchased a new machine as due to having to reset the PC it seems that we can no longer reinstall this set up on signlab 10 as we have been unable to install the cutter in VPM due to the server no longer being supported on signlab 10. We have tried all kinds of work arounds and had even had an expert attempt via teamviewer, and CADLink will no longer offer support unless we upgrade to 11. At the moment we are able to use fine cut 9 to cut from the cg , however I am unable to set up printing from the JV 33 to then cut off the CG as the software doesn't list the JV33 to send to Rasterlink through finecut as it doesn't have a built in cutter as only a printer, I can set up the CJV to do so but we really need the some form of set up to have cutting from the cg and printing on jv33.

I have looked everywhere for a solution to set this up as I cannot work out how to set up myself , would anyone be able to recommend a solution or even point me in the direction of someone who can help? I am still a bit new to the workings of the different set up and rip software's and I am a little out my depth. Any advice is appreciated , thank you .

Hey Rob,
You should install the cutter in Signlab interface. Don't try it through VPM.
In Signlab just choose File/install/cutting devices and select your device from there.
Then go to Cut/Plotting Defaults and select your CG cutter driver then set it up how you want wrt port, page size etc.

You can also add the CJV30 if you want to use that as a cutter for doing print/cut.

Let me know if you get stuck. I have Signlab and a JV33 and a CJV30.
I don't use Rasterlink or Finecut. Do it all through Signlab/VPM.

to clarify, you want to be able to use the jv33 to print then the CG as your cutter while using illustrator?

WHat version of rasterlink are you using?
What version of Finecut are you using?
What version of Adobe Ai are you using?

I have the exact setup that you are running.
Finecut has a plugin that lets you create the registration marks for the plotter regardless if you are using the CJV or the CG.
But you need to create the cut path etc.

Since RL isn't showing your JV33, I can assume you are on RL 7? that won't show the jv33. you'll need RL 6 or less.

You dont need to add the printer to Finecut, and of course you can add only models with cut feature.
In your case you need to add your CG as a cutting plotter to Finecut, and to be able to output the data to Rasterlink (I guess youre using RL6 as RL7 doesnt support JV33) you need to add a printer hot folder as output path.
To do that press RL button in Finecut, then press "select hot folder" and add the printer hot folder. You can find the folder at "C:\MijCtrl\Hot\Your printer name" (for RL6)
Now when you want to send file to print directly from Illustrator press RL in Finecut and then Output and your data will automatically appears in Rasterlink job list.
And when you want to cut just printed media use Plot button in Finecut.
Hope this helps
