JV4 losing prime after damper replacement

I have a JV4 that I recently replaced the dampers on to try to fix some print quality issues. Since then the printer will only hold prime for an hour or so. The dampers were purchased from digiprint. I have used a syringe to pull ink into the damper then unhooked a pump tube and pulled ink through the capping station. Is it possible I need to pull ink from the waste tank outlets to prime the pump? Has anyone had an bad experience with digiprint dampers in the past? I have read all the other posts on damper replacements and seem to be pretty straight forward. Does anyone know any service techs in the NW Ohio area? Thanks
