Laminating vs Clear coating

When looking into UV LED printers/cutters, we were wondering if the clear coat option would work similar to laminating when it came to decals.

Sometimes people only need decals to last 12 to 18 months and if this could save as from laminating on some jobs it would be a bonus with these equipment.

Anyone tried this with their UV LED or have a VersaUV LEC-540 or 330 and tried it?
