I'm thinking that is ink starvation..... on the larger size your printer is unable to keep enough ink flowing to the heads for some reason. Could be any number of things like dampers need to be changed, capping tops need changed, pump not working as well as it should, discharge ink lines getting clogged (this can prevent the pump from sucking hard enough). Or could just be a software or machine setting. I'm not familiar with how it would be set or what its called on a Roland. On a Mimaki its the "refresh" level which is, when printing, how often it pauses on the capping station and pumps a small bit to draw more ink into the head(s).
