Large Print Cut job - Rasterlink 6

Hi all,

I’m new to large-format/vinyl printing and could use some advice. I’m running a Mimaki CJV30-100 with Rasterlink 6.

I have a long project where I need to produce around 20m of stickers. Printing isn’t an issue, but I’m struggling with the cutting. When the printer switches to contour cutting, it feeds the entire roll forward and back to find the registration marks before cutting.

Is there a way to run the full print without the machine feeding all the media through first? Or alternatively, can I break the job into sections—say, print 4 rows, cut those, then move on to the next block—without needing individual registration marks on every single sticker?

There is a way to tell it to only look at the first 2 crop marks but it will be less accurate, especially on long jobs. Your best bet is to do smaller groups like you mentioned.

1. Bring your job into Rasterlink
2. Set how many copies you want in each batch in the layout screen.
3. In the crop mark section, choose "Whole" for the location option. This puts the crop marks around the group instead of the individual job
4. In the "Execute" tab on the right of the Rasterlink window, select the "Print <-> Cut" option, "Immediate Print", and then enter the amount of times you want to print and cut that group and click Start.

That will print a group, cut it, and then print the next group etc. If one group fails to read the crop marks or the media skews etc. you can always reset the crop mark sensor to the first crop mark and send a single copy of the group over to the printer and it will cut it.
