LEC2-640 intermittent blurry printing on chrome gold vinyl

Hey everyone,

I'm printing client labels on gold vinyl with the Roland LEC2-640 and the final product has some intermittent blurring going on. It doesn't do it with any other vinyl. It seems to effect vertical strips about .5-1 inch wide. They're not always in the same spots. It's not the file, and it doesn't seem to be a problem on any other vinyl but the gold chrome. Anyone have a similar issue or possible solutions? Thanks!

Try printing it with the lights off in the room, or with the printer shielded from daylight. It could be light is reflecting off the vinyl and confusing the sensors.
If your other vinyl is printing fine, it is obviously something to do with that finish, and too bright lights can stop the encoder sensor reading properly

The film is likely not laying flat on the platen in the areas which this issue occurs. If you get down at eye level, you will see it buckles where the blurry print occurs (might be hard to see on a LEC2 with the front covers).

You can print unidirectional in VersaWorks as a temporary fix until you figure out why the media is not staying flat.

Did you figure out the issue? I'm having the same issue with my prints in the middle of the roll.
