Lexan Letters over digital print

I want to apply 3/16" thick lexan over a digital print to give some added dimension.
Will this cause the print to wrinkle over time due to expansion and contraction.
Should I cut the vinyl away from those areas and apply the letters directly to the sign substrate? (alumalite)

Definitely apply the vinyl to substrate. That is what the material is designed to do.
