Use led strips they are bright as hell and really cheap.

Anyways, like kheebl said, I made a light table using LED lights.
I purposely used a few different types of LED lights that we use here so that I could put
the backlit image over what ever LED is going to be lighting the sign and
make sure I wasn't getting "hot spots"....
& BTW, The backlit table seconds as our laminator table too.
