lightbox and vinyl ???

I am doing a light box sign that is 3'x10'. The artwork that was sent to me by the client is very straight forward, consisting of 1 color background with cut out lettering. Can I do this with cast black vinyl and weed out the actual letters ? Will the sign be visible?... I know they make translucent vinyl but I don't believe that it is necessary here... What do you think ?

Opaque vinyl is fine in this instance because at night you only want light coming through the lettering. Avery 5500 series black is opaque anyway. Eg.
