Magenta dies mid print job on VS-540i

On my Versacamm VS-540i, magenta fails completely in the middle of a print job. It works for the first foot or so of printing, then quickly fades out.

On a test print after it fades out, I see only a few magenta lines.

Doing a powerful clean brings the magenta back temporarily (and it looks correct on a test print).

I tried changing the damper, but that didn’t resolve the issue. What else could it be?

I’m using Roland ink.

Check the ink lines from the cartridge dock to the damper. Did you also replace the O ring seal for the damper? Anywhere air can get into the system will cause the kind of ink starvation you are seeing. If the damper has any slight air leaks it will stop the ink drawing into the head. Also check the manifold the damper connects to for any hairline cracks.

It could also be a bad seal on the ink cartridge so is worth trying another one

Thanks! I tried a new ink cartridge and I see the same problem. I’ll check the other items you mentioned.
