Mask for Air Release Film 3M IJ180mC-10LSE

Does anyone know if we still need to use a special mask for this air-release film.

We recently watched (an old YouTube video) that indicates there could be issues

One supplier has indicated...
... from my experience, you can use something called AirMask 510U Clear Premask for Air Egress Liners however, its not essential, I have many customers that just use a med tack premask for films such as the IJ180MC-10LSE

However, I'm wondering what anyone else's experience (in the field) has been.

510U works very well for air-release films, definitely don't use it with non-air-release however, unless you want to get rid of a customer.

It's probably fine with small pieces or one-offs, but on large pieces, it will separate the silicon layer from the paper underneath it anywhere the backer has been stressed in the slightest.
But it works very well with air egress films, which is what it was designed for.

Thanks for the explanation on this, "Snydo" - I did not realize all this about the mask when we took on the job. We have decided to go with our standard Medium Tack mask, as I can only get that air egress mask in very large rolls, and we didn't factor in the cost of that when we bid on the job... fingers crossed nothing goes wrong, but I will post afterwards to let everyone know how it worked out. Appreciate your input, "Snydo", and your question, "somcalmetim" We really do learn something new every day in this business!

We previously used 3M SCPS-55 for years, and have recently switched to Transferite 992U for our air egress graphics (including IJ180mc-10LSE)

ND sells/stocks it in Canada.

The main problem you'll find with using "regular" or medium tack premask is that it will not lay flat on areas of the liner that do not have vinyl. Definitely not ideal if you're shipping decals to customers for them to apply.

Thanks so much for the info, I will look into that 992U, and hopefully it's more reasonable than the other. Wouldn't mind, but I really don't need a whole roll of it for the price.

Just went onto ND's site, and... holy... but I did find something on TCT's site that looks promising. I always like to use the right material for the job, but I'd need 48", and didn't factor in the additional for mask. Live and learn, hey!
