Does anyone have any experience getting foil to work with primer? If you do, can you let me know the settings you use for the primer/illuminance and the kind of foil you use?

No more like gold and silver for embellishing. We use hot stamp foil to stamp names/dates on leather, but we need something different that would adhere to the primer

I’ve seen videos of people using the 6042 with foil. Also have been to the Mimaki demo center where they had gold embellishments and said just to try different settings to get it to stick, so it can be done. Just need to know type of foil, how much illuminance etc.

The UJF7151 has a silver ink, and you can partially cure clear or colored ink to make it tacky for foiling. Not primer though.

Demo video here:

Only took a few seconds of searching.

Should check out the Mimaki application guides, all sorts of stuff they cover.

Here’s what I did for anyone looking into repeating this method: I got cold decorative foil from Kurz. Then I built up the ink a bit just running black about 3 times. I then did a glossy clear layer I think about 3 more times. I applied the cold foil just rubbed it on using a bone. Then I applied 3 more coats of glossy clear. It kind of lost its shine so I applied foil once more. I’ll see how it holds up. I think it will since it has the foil sandwiched between gloss.

I think I’m going to work on trying to get the leather texture out of the font maybe just need to build it up more. But so far I will continue working on this method. Primer did not work at all.

It transferred extremely well to the clear glossy layer.
