Mimaki CJV30-100

We have just invested in a Mimaki CJV30-100, its main use will be creating customer labels and stickers etc so each sticker is a range of colours and then we cut them out etc etc

Been using Epson Stylus Pro machines for years to create leaflets etc never any print problems ever!.

It got delivered about 3 weeks ago and we had out training etc and then they left us with it. Now i've done media compensation setup more times then its printing its currently set on -7 for printing on self adhesive vinyl but i noticed something the other day. on the right side of the roll the media compensation setup is spot on both grey lines next to each other, no overlay no white space. however on the left side of the roll its got white space which seems very odd, phoned the supplier and they said do media compensation.... that's a normal response I think... quite annoying because i told them i've already done it.

however i get it to the best i can so some colours will print ok solid colour looks great. red looks like it has white space not great, blue looks like it over layed slightly not great to be honest because of the range of colours in most labels and stickers I can never get a flawless print.

now here comes another slightly odd thing... it will print flawless for a few lines and then some lines appear! awesome so i try and adjust on the fly brings it back then it does it again so i adjust again.

Also when i do get it printing well for some reason i get what i would call lack of ink coverage in certain passes looks like its a bit white washed not enough ink on some lines making it look like its slightly banded?

Before i post this through the dealers window has anyone else had anything like this? i mean its not like i'm not setting it up I am but i dont want to have to babysit he printed every pass.

I'm currently using a mactac profile for SS21 inks running bi-directional 6 pass ,mid - high resolution I think its 520x1000 or 720x1000 something like that cant remember and i'm not near the printer at the moment. the temperatures are set quite high pre 40 print 40 post 50

Thank you for your time

For the detail you want try a 720x1440 12 pass profile..... also just as important if not more important is running a Dot Position Correction once in a while. Do not need to run that often but if it's off that will make a difference as well.

thank you for your suggestion i'll try this later. can you recommend a profile to use on 100mic self adhesive vinyl?

and a heat setup for this profile?

Cannot really help on stock profiles. We run aftermarket bulk ink, create all of our own custom profiles with an i1 device and use FlexiSign Pro as our RIP. I have no idea what stock canned profiles are decent...

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
If when you do the media comp alignment one side looks good but the other doesn't, most likely the print head slant adjustment is off. This is a physical alignment that normally is done during installation. You can do the alignment your self but you will need a loupe (kind of like a magnifying glass) to get an accurate adjustment. I would call your dealer and see if a tech could come do it for you as it should be spot on after the installation and it doesn't come out of alignment unless you have smashed the head extremely hard at some point.

I've spoken to the dealer and they are going to ring me on Monday in regards to this. I can manage to get a lot of colours right just struggle with reds. Blues to be honest any colour that has to be mixed. It's not had a head crash only had it 3 weeks and its spend most of its life printing media composition and test stickers.
