Okay, I am trying to make the letters in this word look like they overlap, so i should see the full outline of the letter "b" but I won't see the full outline of the letter "r" because it should appear that part of the "b" is covering it up.

I do not want to completely merge the text (img 2).

I realize if I fill the letters with color they will look like what I am shooting for (img 3), but they cut-lines will not.

Is this possible?

Thaaanks again!

Go to type/create outlines.
select all letters and ungroup.
position/overlap letters as you want them.
select the letter t.
go to object / path / offset path.
select that path that you just offset,
hold the shift key...select the letter e.
in the patherfinder pallete, click subtract from shape (second from top left) - (hold down the alt key before you click).

continue the same with the rest of the letters.

I think this is what you are wanting....so you can cut the finished peice out of vinyl...correct?

Read the book that came with the software. experiement with shapes and the pathfinder pallete buttons.

have fun...and good luck.
