Mutoh VC2-1800 Registration Mark Issues...

Does anyone know of a setting for the VC2-1800 to adjust the intensity of the registration mark reader? We are having problems with ours seeing the marks. We've tried going over them with a Sharpy without any luck.
Or perhaps have a service manual for this?
