Mutoh VJ 1204 - Nozzle Check - Excess Ink

Original Issue Black and Cyan were dropping out - Capping Station and Maintenance Station needed changed as it was unable to draw ink and causing drop out. Changed the maintenance station and also the guide ramps on the print head. While I was there - I soaked the print head and cleaned around as I have done before. I buttoned things up and turned printer on - gave me an Error85 Head Temp - so I checked the ribbon cables to insure that they were plugged in properly and they were.

Upon initialization this time I did not get the error, so I ran an ink fill cycle and the capping station was drawing ink through and followed with a nozzle check and this is what I got - A ton of ink laid down. Photos attached.

My next approach was going to be two new head ribbon cables and possibly print head. Looking for suggestions if that is a good idea or other things to do first. Thanks so much for your assistance in advance. First time posting - but I read this site all of the time for assistance.

You have an electrical short in the print head circuit. Sometimes it's a dirty or damage head cable, dirty or damaged trailing cable, bad print head or even bad main board. One weird trick I have learned with the 1204s is when you get this type of pattern you can usually take the top middle cover that covers the trailing cables off and print like that. 50% of the time it fixes the issue for me.

Also, head heat errors always mean there is a short. Usually in the head itself.

Thanks for the response - Ordered two new head ribbon cables and print head, but will try one at a time and see. Thanks for your assistance in that - I figured it must be. Thanks for the printer hack also!

Ok - Back to printing - Great nozzle check - changed head and ribbons - it was time for both - however, I am getting this ghost drop around blue and dark black - any ideas? Thanks!

With that odd pattern in the "Ghost" area I would lean towards bad spot in the media itself.........You did perform Head Slant and the uni and Bi-Dir adjustments after installing the new head right?

hello, I used to get the fat big strips just like you have pictured, its not the cables
it you are connected to the internet while printing and that is what happens

the over temp error was simply there was no ink in the head at all, until you pulled all the air out of both the head and dampers with the fill
