Need Help Not sure what's going on

So this isn't really sign related, nor is it related to my job.

I opened up Illustrator at home and some reason I'm getting dots in spaces and the pound/hash symbol at the end. Not sure why or how that's there. Wondering if anyone else has seen this and know how I can turn it off?? It goes away when I convert the text to outline, but when I'm typing it's kind of distracting.

Turn off the toggle Show/Hide Hidden Characters in the Type menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-Opt(Alt)-I is the Keyboard Shortcut.
