Painting Acrylic Sign Panels

We have about 20 smaller sign panels that need a good gloss paint, suitable for outdoor use. They will be .25" acrylic, and need to last outdoors for some time. Typically we use automotive primer/paint on our metal signs of same size, but acrylic is required here. Will the same paint combo work?

I know matthews has a 'tie coat' which is basically a primer for plastics

We used to back paint a lot a plexi, we used Lacryl Brand paint

lacryl was to keep it translucent, though, right?

Are these to be backlit ?? Or are they to be opaque ??

Opaque sign panels, one bright red, one metallic.

There are some screen printing inks that will etch right into plastics. It's been so long I can't remember the name though.

I would look up TDS for your auto paint combo, and ... see what they recommend

I think they have both trans and op paint.

Honestly why would you use acrylic if it wasn't going to light up? I know people do, but there are many better materials for, especially for outdoor use.

Why Acrylic

I find acrylic to be a good option for signs that are within arms reach, out in weather, where thickness is key. Edges maintain sharpness, lasts a long time.

Also, in this instance, it is a specified material, retirements are a little strict.
