pay-per-use font service?

Anyone else receive this ad. Apparently they are selling a pay-per-use font service. Problem is, I think I'd rather own a font than rent one but maybe it has its place.

What do you think?

PHOTOLETTERING.COM is a new service that allows you to create, modify and purchase headlines from an easy-to-use online interface. Since acquiring the Photo-Lettering collection in 2003, House Industries has been digitizing and, more importantly, working to recreate the attention to detail that the original staff dedicated to each headline. Photolettering.com brings this level of quality and accessibility to casual and professional users alike.

At $7 for a single headline and monthly subscriptions for as low as $15 per month, photolettering.com is an inexpensive yet high quality alternative for display typography and lettering needs. Photolettering.com alphabets include many extended features not possible in conventional digital fonts and each purchased setting has few licensing restrictions. There’s no purchase necessary to play with photolettering.com, so give it a try!

There are a grand total of 45 fonts available at this point in time. Hardly seems worth consideration.

I'd say that the prices are far from inexpensive. On the other hand, the complete Photolettering collection contains typefaces that are not currently available anywhere, and may never be available except through the service. Many of the typefaces were designed for specific advertising campaigns and created by some of the most highly respected typographers of our time. If House Industries ever does sell them individually or as a collection, you can bet they will be very, very expensive.

I dont' know... I may not be a connoisseur of fine fonts but these look a little outdated to me.

With the reasonable prices Signfonts and LHF charge I can't see too many business opting for this.

I think this is about 15 years too late.
