I am running a Roland SP 540i. For the most part it always prints great except when it comes to grays. They are either a pink gray, or a green/yellow gray. Is there any way on this machine to have it print using only the black ink and turn off the other colors? Even if a file is sent as black it still uses all colors to produce this black. Thoughts?
There is a way to accomplish what you are asking for, it is a setting in the RIP, which I am assuming to be Roland Versaworks. This also requires that the file you are printing is a CMYK-based file. In the Job Settings dialog, go to the Quality Tab, and in the Color Management area near the bottom, choose the preset called '
Density Control Only'. This will effectively turn off all color management in the RIP, and will send the same CMYK values in the file straight through to the printer.
This means that any nozzle degradations (missing or deflected nozzles) that may be present in your K channel will likely result in very visible banding artifacts. It also requires that your media advance be dialed in for the media you are printing onto, or banding will likely result.
