Printing process colors on the FX. Tricks or tips?

Just wondering if anyone has any tricks or tips to improving output for process printing. Other than just changing the DPI is there additional settings that can be changed? I know you are going to "pixeling" because of the way the printer works just wondering if there is anything else to try? I have noticed certain colors look much better than other for example I printed a red color and the "dots" are almost invisible while grays show some pretty big dots and spaces.

I know the prints from the FX are meant to be viewed from a couple feet back just trying to improve gradients and what not on smaller decals.

There are a few things I've found to be helpful.

  • For images, use the STCPhoto halftone and set the LPI to between 60 and 70.
  • For vectors, use the Classical Dot halftone and set the LPI to 53 for work with gradients and 70.7 for work without gradients. The higher the LPI the smaller the halftone dots but the greater the tendency to band.
  • Avoid using the automatic color management. Instead, manually select the output profile named Gerber Edge II 300 DPI CMYK from the list in GSPPlot.

Thanks I will try those suggestions. I knew before getting the FX that there were pitfalls to process printing but time to time I want to get a little better out put if possible on some smaller items.
