Problems with SC 540

I have an SC 540 about 8 yrs old. I am having a problem with the printing. It is separating the colors when it prints by about 3-4 inches. I replaced the ribbon cables coming from the carrige board and did not fix it. I took all the cables off to re set them. Now I have a motor feed error. The vinyl runs til I have to power it down. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
