Question on Flat (Matte finish) paint

I'm wondering what other people are using to acheive a good quality flat finish (custom colors) on metal and plastic fabricated signs.
We typically use an acrylic automotive finish and it works fabulous on primed aluminum, acrylic and PVC but we are having trouble acheiving a flat finish when required.
Any help is greatly apreciated. Thanks to all.

check out some of the new 2 part automotive primers. these come in lot of different colors, and are used mostly on what is called "rat rods"..........and it holds up well. not like the old STD flat primers.

I agree quality paint and a flattened clear coat. Keep in mind if you color coat is flat and your sign is exposed to a lot of sun it won't last long.

You can use Matthews Paint then apply a Matte Clear over it. Then the paint will last and you will get the look.
