Question on part on the printer

Referencing the black rubbery strip in a channel on the printing area, just in front of the media edge guides. Thinking about it I think I might know what it is, might be what the sensor reads for when checking media width?

Well, we have sometime ago quit cutting heavier weight materials like banner with the machine itself and instead cut them by hand with an exacto. Well, my wife tonight, who is a fully paid worker here by the way, went to cut off a banner and cut in that channel instead, screwing up the material in it. Didn't know if its something special that we need to get from Mimaki, or if there is something else I can lay down in there. Its not fully cut through, just in the middle right of the printer.

Thanks.

When we picked up a used JV3, it was clear that the previous owner used that channel as a cutting guide all the time. There were large chunks of the strip missing, and the printer wouldn't read media size at all.

Instead of paying god knows how much, I just grabbed some 1/16" Black foam we had kicking around, cut it into a 1/4" wide strip the length of the printer, and slid it into place. Voila. Printer now reads without any issue, and we didn't pay for fancy space plastic, or whatever the hell Mimaki will pitch it as.

In the end, it needs to be a colour highly contrasting the media, and it needs to fit in the channel.
