I am researching the historical existence of a font called:

FANCY MODERN REGULAR

I am NOT looking for similar fonts.


I am specifically looking for evidence showing that the font name “Fancy Modern Regular” existed before 2013.



Useful evidence includes:



• Screenshots of font menus showing “Fancy Modern Regular” before 2013.
• Font catalogs or font specimen books
• Installation CDs or font collections
• Design files created before 2013 that reference the font
• Archived websites mentioning the font
• Emails mentioning the font name
• Purchase records or license records
• Any document dated before 2013 showing the exact font name


The most important requirement is that the evidence clearly shows the exact font name:

What is the purpose of this "research"? Sounds like a legal witch hunt to me.

The font became relevant in an ongoing trademark dispute, and I’m simply trying to verify its history and timeline. Several sources provide conflicting information, so I’m looking for independent evidence from people who may have used it years ago.

I’m not looking to attack anyone or start litigation against forum members. I’m only interested in documented evidence showing when and where Fancy Modern Regular was available or in use.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not convinced that's actually a typeface - TODAY much less prior to 2013. Too generic of a name which just a description of about a jillion typefaces.

That’s exactly the challenge I’m facing.

The font file I have is named “Fancy Modern Regular,” but I suspect it may have originated from an older sign-making software package, possibly a ScanVec/FlexiSIGN font library or another commercial collection.

I’m trying to establish whether this font existed and was distributed before 2013, regardless of whether “Fancy Modern Regular” was its original name.

Attached is an example of the font.

Yes, it may have been renamed. The file I have is named “Fancy Modern Regular,” but I understand fonts were sometimes renamed by software vendors, printers, designers, or sign shops, which can make the original source hard to trace.

So I’m also looking for anyone who recognizes the actual letterforms, even if the font was originally distributed under another name before 2013.

Any lead in that direction would be greatly appreciated.

So the font to me looks like a modified version of a font called "Bernhand Fashion". Which was originally released in 1929.

The modified version is simply called "Fashion Bold" which I've found was added to a font website in 2011... So before 2013.

We were able to locate Bernhard Fashion and compare it with the disputed typeface. The overall design is clearly similar and may indicate a historical relationship.

However, in our case, the evidence was not accepted because the letterforms are not identical. The Bernhard Fashion version we found is noticeably thinner, while the disputed font has heavier strokes and several modified character details.

As a result, the comparison was considered insufficient to establish that they are the same font.

That said, your finding is still very valuable because it suggests the disputed font may have originated from, or been derived from, an earlier design rather than being an entirely original creation.

If anyone can locate an older digital version closer to Fancy Modern Regular (or Fashion Bold with a documented release date), that would be extremely helpful.

Here is what it probably is. Old Graphics Programs or Document making programs used to come with their own proprietary fonts. They were usually some commonly available fonts but the program maker renamed them. (IE: Peignot was called Penguin, etc) If you want to find that font you need to discover what programs were on that old computer at the time. It's not necessarily the one that wrote the document. For example, If they had loaded, say, Ventura Publisher and it came with it's own set of sample fonts and that font was there, then that font would have been on that computer. The document in question then could have been made using MS Word or anything else, but the font could be used because it was on the computer. Savvy? The font may not show up in the world of fonts because it is actually called something else. So, no one cared to preserve it, because it was easily available by it's real name. So I know why you want it because finding it would legally date the document to some degree.

However, that website only provides the font download/name and does not clearly show the original source, release date, or whether it existed before 2013.

So I agree with your point — the font may have been bundled with older software under a renamed or proprietary name, and later circulated online under “Fancy Modern Regular.”

Regard the fonts Fancy Modern Regular, it can currently be found on a Chinese font website under the exact name “Fancy Modern Regular,” and the letterforms appear to match. However, that website only provides the font download/name and does not clearly show the original source, release date, or whether it existed before 2013. Also the copyright statement is (C) ScanVec Co. (1990) Ltd. All rights reserved. We also found Bernhard Fashion, but it looks much thinner after compare, but it looks from same creator. Perhaps we should focus on looking for FlexiSIGN font families; thank you for the information.

I think I still have Casmate PRO (or CUT, I cant remember) originals on floppy disk ... maybe they have something, and for sure would be about 1996-1997 when we opened the shop. I will try to get a floppy reader!! hahahhahah
