Hi guys!

After I changed the clogged black print head the new started to flood ink. I mean seriously flood.
Here´s a picture how it prints now.

The other head prints fine, it´s just this new.

What went wrong?
Can I fix it?

Did you cross the cables over as this can destroy a head?
Is it just that head that is doing this?
Can you swap the cables over to check the head is working?

It could be a dead head.

What do you mean, cross over?

I removed the cable from the 2nd head that works fine and installed it to the 1st head and the problem remains.
I also tried both heads on the 2nd head "slot" and they both work fine. So the heads are ok.
The problem needs to be somewhere else.

So if you put the black head on a different channel it will work?

If you plug the two cables on the head the wrong way round it will fry the head.

Yes, works fine.

Are you saying that the data cable is a "one way street"?

Oh, just to make sure we´re talking about the same printer, it´s Rockhopper 46" with 6 colors (1st and 2nd heads are similar).

Sorry I thought it was the later rockhopper with the dx4 heads.
Your printer is real old school.
Still looks like a head cable issue or maybe a faulty head board.

I´m afraid too that it might be head board failure.
The cable would be easy and cheap to check, but our dealer doesn´t carry those cables anymore (here in Finland) so it would be a long wait to get one.
Do you know any supplies in the U.K. who might have them?

You proofed it are not the cables by placing head 1 on spot of head 2 where it worked fine.

So two things head board.

or main pcb

I sure hope it´s the head board and not pcb.

I just yesterday (sunday) ordered one (and a cable to be sure that´s not the problem) from digiprint-supplies.

Is there something specific to do when I change the head board? Or is it plug and play?
Head ranks maybe need to be inserted but anythibg else?

Head ranks are stores in the EEprom on the main pcb.
No main problem when you swap heads and not change head ranks.

Headboard should be plug and pray :)

Let us know the results when parts are in and installed.

-Ok, that´s good. Less possibilities to get it wrong.

-Will do!

Ok then,

headboard and ribbon cable came in and are now installed.

Printed fine for a moment and lost all power!

Switching back on panel flashed once, that´s all.
Will not power up.

Wiggled the power cord, helped once or twice.
Powers up occasionally.

Seems that the problem is in the power inlet.

Hope so!

Part of the problem really is the power inlet, but still (or again) the other head isn´t working properly.
In the nozzle test it prints only a few hardly noticeable lines from the 1. head.
Here´s a pic.

Any thoughts??
