Roland LEC or LEF printers: Possible to do gradients and opacities of white ink, in 1 print pass?

Just curious, I know I can print solid white ink base layers, but is it possible to get VersaWorks/Roland to print a 'greyscale' of just white ink?
from lets say 1% white ink density/opacity all the way to 100% white ink density/opacity all in 1 printing pass??

thanks

Set up the white ink in illustrator as a spot channel and do a gradient there with opacity from 1% to 100%
