I currently use a Roland Vp-540i and have been very happy with it
alof ot my suppliers (I send out for Flatbed work)
also have Mimaki Roll Printers

they seem very popular

I am just wondering
other then speed differences in some models
what advantages (if any) does a Mimaki setup have over a roland one

I use the Versaworks RIP for the Vp540i, what is used for the Mimaki ?

a lot of us use Flexi, & a lot don't ...I use Flexi.
I think the cleaning procedures require more consistent attention than my friends with VC's describe. I don't know much about Roland printers though, so other than basic full solvent differences over eco-solvent... I'm not sure what else may be relevant.

It seems there are a lot more options for third party ink with the Mimaki, the newer machines are a little more resistant, but there are workarounds (chips etc.) Mimaki printers are really tough and last seemingly forever, (not to detract from the Roland) the older machines can be converted to third party ink relatively easily. Some users are down to around $100 a liter with the same print quality.
