Roland RS-640 not Printing straight has anyone had this problem.
The printer has done a far bit of work and thinking it could be a motor

Or the encoder strip may need to be cleaned....

I also agree, clean the encoder strip. Much cheaper than a new motor

Cleaned the encoder strip, didnt fix it & so now have a new motor turning up.

That symptom is typical for the encoder strip, haven't had any motor issue with these symptons in 17 years of roland support. If cleaning won't help, it could be that it is damaged. If this is the first time with problems with the encoder, you could turn it upside down.

i cleaned my encoder strip, didnt fix it, and replaced it worked perfectly
